FUE Procedure

When you've made your decision, we will set a date for the operation.

An informed consent form will be provided at least fifteen days prior to surgery to be signed the day of surgery. One of our staff will go over the general rules and your customized surgery procedure with you to give you a summary of the decisions made about the overall surgical approach and the area to be covered during the procedure.

Generally, the operation will begin early in the day and end late in the afternoon or evening. For patients from abroad, it is desirable to be present the day before surgery to be fresh and rested on the day of the surgery.

FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction):

Unlike the technique described above, the FUE procedure removes the follicular unit directly on the scalp after local anesthesia. A punch (knife cylinder from 0.75 to 1.0 mm in diameter) is used to "liberate" each follicular unit from its subcutaneous attachments; each follicular unit is then collected using micro-forceps.

The follicular units are harvested and then replanted as quickly as possible into reimplantation sites created the same way as the technique was.

The scar left after removal by FUE will be a series of sub-millimeter points, the diameter of  the punch that is used. These scars are virtually invisible to the naked eye because of their size and arrangement. If the points are too close together, there will be a confluence of these points resulting in a larger scar that will therefore be visible to the naked eye. Therefore it is important to divide the sample of follicular units so as to avoid this confluence and get this "micro-healing" disseminated smoothly and virtually invisibly.

Factors other than the diame ter of the punch and the distribution of samples will also influence the visibility of scars, these include, the contrast between skin and hair, the texture of the skin, which varies from one individual to another, and also the frequency of consumption of tobacco, alcohol or other drugs.

A healing ointment will also allow rapid healing and harmony. The return to normal activity can be accomplished very rapidly between, 7 and 10 days after surgery.

In the same way as for FUT, we strongly advise against driving on the evening of the surgery. Therefore, you must provide another means of transport.

It is also essential to make an appointment the day after surgery to verify the good condition of the graft.
